JOB SUMMARY:
The Engineering Manager provides oversight to HoTT Engineering in all aspects of product design and development from concept, design verification, prototype testing, production, and leading up to the release of product.  The Engineering Manager is responsible for providing quality, cost effective, timely, technical support and design for new and existing products and services.  This role is responsible for managing engineering standards for Holland technical content and systems.  The Engineering Manager is responsible for the continual improvement of HoTT products including cost optimization.  This role will work closely with other functions such as new product development, Product Management, Production, Sales, Customer Service, Quality, and Procurement groups. 
 
The Engineering Manager is responsible for managing the annual Engineering Department budget.  In addition, this role is responsible for the people development of the Engineering team members.  
 
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Duties include, but are not limited to:
·                     Supervision of engineering staff while providing guidance and coaching necessary for them to achieve their job responsibilities in an acceptable manner.
·                     Provide sound designs, which meet the requirements of the customer and/or specifications.
·                     Maintain complete engineering documentation of projects.
·                     Support the quality system by investigating and addressing Non-Conformance Reports as directed.
·                     Work with vendors/suppliers to improve product quality, delivery and to continuously reduce cost.
·                     Oversee the new product development engineering process. 
·                     Interface with the Sales Team and customers to determine trends in the industry and identify new product opportunities.
·                     Provide technical assistance to customers as required. Work closely with customers, suppliers, and other Holland employees during all phases of a project.
·                     Review and respond to product improvement requests.
·                     Monitor competitive actions/new products in the industry.
·                     Prepare and implement relevant sections of the budget and strategic plans.
·                     Participate in industry trade associations, as appropriate.
·                     Attend various railroad related meetings and conventions.
·                     Other duties as assigned.
 
 
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
·                     Ability to lift up to 25 lbs. without reasonable accommodation.
·                     Ability to climb bi and tri auto racks.
·                     Ability to travel up to 50% of the time, including ground and air travel.
·                     Willingness to wear PPE (hard hat, safety glasses, hearing protection, steel toed boots) as required.
 
ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:
·                     Office/cubicle environment.
·                     Shop & customer environment including welding, overhead cranes, rail yard and fork trucks.
·                     Field on-track environment in all weather conditions.
 
QUALIFICATIONS:
·                     BSME and higher.
·                     5+ yrs of work experience in manufacturing as mechanical and/or product design engineer.
·                     Railcar experience of 1 or more years a plus
·                     Excellent oral and written communication skills.
·                     Ability to drive creative and unique engineering solutions
·                     Must be committed to customer service.
·                     Able to work to demanding deadlines and with a sense of urgency.
·                     Work effectively as team member and/or leader.
·                     Ability to facilitate and make decisions.
·                     Proficiency in SolidWorks, 3D modeling, AutoCAD 2005 or higher.
·                     Knowledge of FMEA, Lean practices, Six Sigma and Value Engineering.
·                     FEA experience is a required.
·                     Detail oriented.
·                     Self-motivated.
·                     Must maintain a valid passport.
·                     Ability to effectively work in a team environment.
