Engineering Technician - Crete, IL

JOB SUMMARY:
The qualified individual will support a variety of technology-based product development and testing activities in our facility in Crete, Illinois. Our product development team includes talented and experienced software developers, hardware designers, electrical engineers, mechanical engineers, data analysts, and scientists. The selected candidate is expected to be 100% on-site.  

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Work closely with software and hardware development managers to build, improve and perform quality assurance and user-acceptance test procedures, including new hardware configurations, firmware, and software releases
  • Identify, troubleshoot, and solve problems with measurement systems that include custom integrated boards, cameras, lasers, and inertial measurement sensors with the guidance from subject matter experts, including software and hardware developers working remotely
  • Conduct quality assurance and control tests in the laboratory and railroad track (requires an operation of a custom hi-rail pickup truck on both highway and railway) before releasing to the customer
  • Support the installation and deployment of products operating from custom hi-rail trucks, rail-bound inspection cars, and revenue service freight or passenger locomotives on customer sites
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Ability to lift to 50 lbs. with or without reasonable accommodation
  • Ability to travel up to 10% of the time
  • Ability to perform necessary tasks by wearing personal protection equipment (hard hat, safety glasses, hearing protection, steel-toed boots) as required
ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:
  • Mostly office and electronics laboratory environment and occasionally in machine shops, railroad tracks, rail-bound or highway-railway vehicles, rail cars, and locomotive maintenance shops
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • High school diploma AND at least 3 years of experience in related fields, or associated degree with equivalent training in Electrical, Software or another related technical field
  • Basic knowledge of Linux and Windows operating systems
  • Ability to read schematics, diagrams, layouts, and technical drawings
  • Ability to use test equipment including, but not limited to, digital multimeters, oscilloscopes, power supplies, signal generators, and specialized test fixtures
  • Proficient with MS Office tools including Word and Excel (data analysis and visualization)
  • Basic knowledge of CAD software, preferably SolidWorks
  • Basic knowledge of PCB design software, preferably Altium
  • Basic knowledge of C/C++, Python programming languages
  • Must maintain a valid driver’s license and abide by our Corporate Fleet Policy
  • Ability to successfully complete all pre-employment testing required by Holland, L.P.
